i'm a cascadian!

here's a short update!

if you're wondering what a cascadian is...well, we just selected our flat at punggol's waterway cascadia! it was our second time and although both times our queue numbers exceeded the number of flats, a lot of people gave theirs up so we got ours! of course the unit wasn't the most ideal; facing the LRT instead of the waterway. but considering how H88 evaluates it as one of the best premium BTOs in 2012 (part 1 | part 2), i guess we're pretty lucky to have secured a not-the-shittiest unit there lol.

having waited so many months for the results and then for our selection appointment, i suppose it's taking a bit longer to sink in. though i am beginning to feel more and more excited about it. been spending a few hours daily on pininterest gathering bits and pieces and i almost have the whole design in my head already! in 4 years time, let's hope my design gets finetuned and the reno prices drop. boo.

having my own place is like my childhood dream come true. that's...kinda weird eh? =|

home-made natural air fresheners

i came across this website on pininterest some time ago, and finally decided to try it out! unfortunately mine doesn't look as pretty as hers. T__T

step one: slice oranges. i decided to use the citrus one since i had them in the fridge. lol.

step two: add spices. i have here cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and a pretty star anise. (which my mum kept for so damn long and had already lost their fragrance. -_-)

step three: bring to boil. after that, i left it to simmer for about 40 mins on the stove.

step four: pack for reuse. as you can see, the water is cloudy already, but it still smells pretty good. so i kept it in a container and froze it. shall try boiling it next week! (itchy hand added a couple of rose petals for dunno-what.)

according to the website, the scent is supposed to slowly spread to the whole house, which unfortunately mine didn't. mine turned out very "cinnamon-ly" without much citrus smell, even though i had used 2 oranges. 

and it only lingered around the stove/kitchen area. =( maybe i was a bit greedy to expect the whole house to be filled with just a small pot of scented water. however if you have the aromatherapy burner, you can try using that. i think it should smell very nice for a small room.

but the best thing is, it's totally natural!! have fun making yours!

organizing #1

overdue post lol. having spent the last few weeks hooked on reading organizing blogs, i've been looking around my room for any organizing opportunities myself! main sources of inspiration came from mini manor blog, hi sugarplum, and pink postcard. but of course, their houses are much bigger and they have more space to play around with, and they are stay-home mums so they have more time on their hands. *grumbles*

but anyway, i got so motivated by their homes that i finally decided to get started on re-organizing the stuff in my room. if you don't know, i have so little storage space and so many things, that over the years months, they just start to pile on top of one another. 

my wardrobe is one place that i can never keep tidy. *ashamed* this time round, i merely cleaned it out, lined the shelves with pretty (and useful) linings, and threw out a few clothes for donation. i daren't show you all my bursting-to-the-beam wardrobe but at least i know now that though it's still chock full of stuff, it looks neat and tidy. to a certain extent. drawers are much prettier though.

i have this little corner at the end of my bed, where my huge hello kitty sits amidst my pile of bags, and i've been wanting to better utilize this space. so i dropped by spotlight and got myself this 2 huge big containers with wheels. dumped some of my lesser-used stuff, like bedsheets, into one container, and some of my often-used bags in the other. rolled both under the bed and voila~ drawers! lol.

'prettified' a S-hook to hang my bag, and dumped the mat under the table. i now can have a nice, soft, and comfy (and cheap!) mat to rest my poor feet when i work on the computer. ^^

i think...i'm pretty okay at organizing but doing horrible in beautifying it. i suck in creativity. =( let's just hope it'll improve or i get enough ideas by the time i get my own flat! *cross fingers*

it feels so good to be saying this: i am serving my notice period! :D

yes yes, i quit my job. no no, i haven't found another job. so why have i made myself jobless? because i cannot freaking stand that bitch anymore!! lols. just kidding. i'm not that 潇洒.

the fact is, i'm going back to school! it's a one year degree course that cost me almost 20k. and you know what? it's for the sake of i-n-t-e-r-e-s-t. not because i will get a higher pay. not because of better career opportunities. but solely for interest. of course, i hope to develop a career in this field, but the main thing on my mind currently is to finish the darn course. and enjoy it!

so yes, 3 more weeks to bye bye RT. they offered me a part-time position when they learned my classes are at night.

think i'm dumb enough? tsk.

some time ago, i received these ginvera samples in my mail. (they came with a underpaid postage fine which up till now i have no idea how to pay.) i'm not sure if the free samples are still on now, but here's my take on them.

green tea nude cover bb cream

i used just once, and dumped the rest away. lol. it gave my complexion a sickly, dull, greyish tone which i immediately disliked. it was also pretty watery, which probably caused the lack of coverage. so personally, bb cream phail.

green tea aqua whitening cream

oil control? like real! i think it made my face even more oily. tsk. no whitening effect whatsoever, but i'm still using it as a night cream since it doesn't break me out and my laneige is finished. scent is pretty nice too.

bro is having his 21st birthday party at home tomorrow later, and since my dad said it'll also be a mini house warming, i thought i'll finish what i started a few months ago.

no need to tell me they're slanted; i know i know. eh not easy one leh! =X

you know what? i mad loves!! :D but i must have kept it for too long; the adhesive isn't working well anymore and they're starting to peel at the edges. i suppose it won't last very long. at least, i don't have to worry about it peeling my paint off.

2011: 鱼生 no.1

kinda early for this, but i just had my first 鱼生 this CNY season!

was at ikea for dinner and to pick up my 2 shelves. hauled them back home and fixed them up immediately. see how pretty?!

haha, ok not very pretty like this. it's cheapo ikea stuff but fits so nicely into the overall purple and white theme in my room! wait till you see everything as a whole. mad pretty. mad happy! :D

oh by the way, my wardrobe's NOT fixed yet. 3 more days to moving, and i still can't decide if by then it's still not fixed, should i even unpack stuff into the wardrobe? don't think i've been this angry before. even my parents can't seem to get over the scolding fit i had on monday. and no i don't feel appeased AT ALL. no effort has been put in so far in rectifying the defects. it's always "check and call you back", and with no intention to call at all.

but it's gonna be nice to see what exactly am i capable of when they cross my limit. prelude: "捞啊! 希望 rozel 快点倒闭!" and i'm so gonna chant it at every 鱼生 i go to.

the wall decals cher got me a long time ago!

kawaii! pasted 2 at the side on this small plain shelf and it immediately looked more interesting. have quite a few more and i can't wait to put them all up on the walls! just waiting a couple more months for the new paint to set in.

also put up my pretty accessories holder that flew in from hongkong. bargained a long time for this and i sure hope the same model can't be found here in singapore. lols.

the room seems to be coming together better than i had expected. happy! but the only problem would be the lack of storage space.

furthermore, first, the shelves i want from ikea are only coming in next week. second, the wardrobe we ordered from ROZEL FURNITURE sucks to the max!! not only is the wardrobe super flimsy (even more so than the one in the showroom), the workmanship is super bad! both the glass door and the wood backing have big ugly bubbles in them. the drawer and the door can't be shut properly too. the maddening thing is, it's around the same price as those from ikea, and i 100% confirm ikea's would be of a better quality. zzZz.

only thing i like about it, are the glass doors with faded flower motifs. it covers the almost the whole door but yet faint and subtle enough so that it doesn't draw too much attention. and yes, it's purple. =) anyway, we requested them to replace the whole cupboard which i'm hoping will arrive before CNY, although i don't think they will. which means while i can pack here, i can't unpack there. boo.

SHITTY ROZEL FURNITURE!! (they can sue me but wtf it's the truth. i'm so pissed everytime i see the bubbles; i don't quite mind blowing this up. don't even get me started on their $&@^$% after-sales service attitude.)

went ikea again this afternoon and spent a few hundred more. on a side note, i still prefer ikea. designs aren't the best, but quality is commendable. (cheapo ikea sofa can tahan bro's weight for so long while expensive ones can't.) staff's attitude isn't the best either, but i'm happy enough to get around without their help. i can also bring home stuff i want immediately, and playing carpenter is fun! lols.

sighhh. i wonder if we can really make it before CNY.

spent the whole day at new house fixing things up and waiting for some furniture to arrive, though majority of my time was spent playing sango td and stoning around. kinda waste of time if not for the fact that i wanted to see my light. mad chio!!

lols. if you didn't know, pineapple in hokkien ("ong lye") sounds like 旺来. so rolling the pineapple means rolling luck into the home. hmmmm. but i still don't like to eat pineapple! =P

he came to pick me up (or rather, pick the tv up. more on that later), and we headed first to changi then back to the new house. i got to see my chio purple room!! *happy*

the light and dark purple color combination was even nicer than i had expected, but the floor and ceiling was disappointingly way too white. it made the room brighter than i would have liked it to be. let's just hope the white will be filled up once the furniture moves in.

decided to give up obtaining the photos from office camera, and since i have no mood to work, i shall start on the office party before i begin forgetting stuff. so, our annual party was postponed to the last day of the year instead of christmas eve, and i decided to join the organizing team again this year. events organizing is super fun!

early lunch since the engineers had to rush back to site. food was prepared by Hel's maid. A bit cheapo but surprisingly they tasted quite nice. especially the sweet and sour fish slices.

and then we started on our games. this year, PL went to a lot of christmas parties and she came back with lots of fun ideas. super hilarious!

1. pass the message (1)

the original message was "william farquhar was raffles' good friend. you know the market is bullish." it was just some random sentence we picked up from the newspapers. one group unfortunately got it right, but the other didn't! they got "william fark is raffles' good friend. and he is a buddhist." i'm by no means making fun of religion, but this is funny!! XD

2. pass the nuts

a simple game of passing an object through the clothes of each team member, and we added a string behind. initially i thought they would take some time for this, but they were surprisingly quick; the guys simply laid down and threw the nut through their pants. play cheat!

3. celebrity hunt

we hid photos and names of celebrities and they had to find and match them. hid them in the most un-findable places (like between the calendar pages and under the rubber door stopper) but they still managed to find them. one group even dismantled the table. boo!

4. pictureka!

standard game of pictureka. a chance for them and us to take a breather.

5. drink up

another simple game to guess who drank the sour lemon juice. some fake sour faces are funny!

6. shake the balls

we put paper balls into empty shoe boxes with 2 holes on each side, box strapped to each member, and they had to shake out as many balls as possible. RT people never follow rules, and the game went haywire. zzZz.

7. pass the message (2)

this is the funniest. they had to act out professions and it was super super funny when it came to toilet cleaner, hooker, stripteaser, poledancer, and stuff like that. it was actually easier but 亲爱的 was too shy and therefore the other group won. lols.

so that's the end of the games! doesn't seem very fun and funny reading it, but i super liked this year's games. had a great time laughing at other people! :D and now for the much-awaited lucky draw. i think eeyore brings me luck. while preparing the stuff, i immediately picked out eeyore and said "this one will be first prize." when it came to the actual draw, i happened to pick eeyore again. lols.

while they were giving out the prizes from bottom up, i kept hoping they don't call eeyore till at least the top 3, and guess what? i got into top 3! ^_^ 2 rounds of 终极密码 was played, and laoniang got first prize. MWAHAHAHAHA! totally stunned lor.

perfect gift for the new house. :D

the belly rules the mind

popped down the house on sunday afternoon for a glimpse of the new door.

pretty! because i choose one. lols. then went ikea. again. but this time we bought loads of stuff and arranged for delivery. starting to panic cos i haven't started packing at all! boo.

by the time we finished, it was almost 8pm already. headed down east coast for dinner.

1. twin squids local delight. crispy and yummy!

2. seafood fried rice. black peppery nice!

3. steamed sea bass with nonya sauce. super spicy!

4. drunken live prawn in herbal soup. prawns were big and fresh but i super loved the herbal soup!

5. fried sambal kang kong. nothing special actually.

6. baked black pepper crab. yums!!

7. pomelo sago with mango cream.

extravagant dinner. boo.

what i've dreaded a lot has finally begun. all the headaches, the backaches, the packing, the sweating, the shopping, the buying, the spending, the not being able to spend time with SSD...

guess what? I AM MOVING~!! and i thought it'd be kinda fun to document it part by part. lols. so here's the initial bare room:

had subway to lunch/tea today. been a long long time since i last had it. i love subway! rofl. the pickles and olives and lettuce and chillis and honey mustard and mayo...i've never been THIS happy eating bread. lol.

narnia today.

watched part 1 and 2 and this part 3 was just as nice! but too bad peter and susan wasn't in the show. apparently they were too old to enter narnia and soon lucy and edmund will be too. though i doubt that'll be the end of the narnia film series.

anyway, this installment brings lucy and edmund and their cousin into narnia again to help prince caspian defeat evil. there's the usual excitement and hilarious moments, especially when eustace turns into a dragon. overall, wonderful movie! (and prince caspian is still super hot!) :D

was already dark when we came out, and we took some time deciding where to have dinner.

and decided on coffee club. i took the herb crumbed fish fillet with hollandaise again. wasn't as nice as the first time i tried it. there wasn't enough hollandaise and the fish was a little too hard.

SSD tried the seafood ciopinno. i don't know about him, but i didn't quite like the sauce. and there was this huge soft shell crab on the top. eeks!

shiok lah! got pram to sit and fan to cool it (even though it's freezing cold inside already). looks super cute and cuddly and fluffy and just like a soft hugable bear. awwww~
