A Memorable Job Interview

saw this prompt on plinky and it deemed relevant at the moment.

... ...

many years ago, i applied for this assistant job at a law firm in bugis. on the day of the interview, i alighted at the wrong floor. lols. there was no one else in the lift and i have no idea how i could have pressed the button wrongly. should have taken it as a sign for me to leave, but i went ahead with the interview then.

was brought into the meeting room, and after the usual question-and-answer crap, i was asked to do this proof-reading test on microsoft word. it was the first time i encountered something like that, and i think i was pretty anxious to get the job. i remembered being super freaked out! pretty glad when it was over. lols.

on a side note, i'm obviously not working there anymore. i not only had to endure boring mundane proof-reading of legal documents and OT-till-8pm everyday, it was also freaking scary. cos usually when majority of the people leave after work, the lights would be turned off. so during my OT, the only lights on would be the one above my cubicle and the room lights of one or two managers left. didn't help that the building was actually rumored to be 'dirty'. half a month into the job, i took 2 days MC, and got nagged at by the HR. so being young and rebellious, i quit the next day. :)

... ...

another memorable one would be at NTU. i wonder if it can be considered my best job interview ever. COS THERE'S NO INTERVIEW!! XD

i remember my first day of work was also the first day of school, and i lost my way but too paiseh to ask for directions. lucky i went early. lols. apart from the shitty pay, it's probably my favorite job so far: personal room + laptop + printer, super slack work, short working hours, and being part of the 'provost team' gives me a '一人之下, 万人之上' position, even though i'm a mere temporary staff. shiok! watched and re-watched a whole lot of movies/dramas in the 6 months i was there. =P

... ...

that's about it. pretty boring i must say. more photos of new house up tomorrow! =)

Three Countries I'd Like to Visit

1. Barcelona, Spain

ancient buildings and medieval churches as remarkable architectural masterpieces. that was what initially captivated me about spain. then, stories and photos from an aunt during her brief stay there sparked greater interest for me to see the city from a resident's point of view. the last straw came during 流星花园, when 道明寺 and 杉菜 went there for a holiday. the beautiful churches, the street vendors, the city outskirts, the public monuments, the scenery... it's definitely at the top of my wishlist for wedding photos! :P

2. Rome, Italy

another great location for memorable wedding photos, my main purpose for visiting would be to see the colosseum. all those julius caesar and gladiator got me reaaallly fascinated about ancient rome. triump in the skies and the triangel only made it worse. lols. not to mention new moon also had a roman scene. and the sights and scenery are pretty too! ;)

3. Sligo, Ireland

where else but the hometown of my favorite westlife member? apparently sligo is more of a countryside than dublin, which is so me! (not much to visit, more to reside.) :D

of course, theoretically these are my 3 countries, but i'd probably never ever get to visit them. so realistically, i'll probably list taiwan, hongkong, and.....malaysia? boo. -_-'''

Ignorance Is (Not) Bliss

is it always better to know the truth, even when it hurts? 废话!长痛不如短痛嘛!

... ...

tired tired day! went sim siang choon @ changi in the morning, and then ikea @ tampines after that. super like window shopping at ikea, even though there's nothing to buy. seeing those beautifully decorated rooms always excites me! plus they added a couple more purple rooms. so much inspiration! found a lot of stuff i could get for the new house too! soooooo exciting! :D

lunchie lunch! had a simple vegetarian pasta...

...and a herring sandwich.

it looks kinda pretty but NOT NICE AT ALL! see those like black round things? super horrible taste! and the herring was raw. eeeeewwww~! i think i'll stick to salmon sashimi. -_-'''

they also ordered a whole lot of chicken wings. a DOZEN to be exact.

which they finished in less than 30 mins? lols. lalala. another meaningless post. off to continue HYD2. and it's a tired day tomorrow again. =(

Just a Little Harmless Venting

just realized that my blogging has been rather monotonous lately; with only used-to-be-interesting random food photos. so in an attempt to spice up this place, i've joined plinky! it's a site created to curb writers' blocks by providing us a topic to blog about! kinda pathetic if you think about it, but i guess i need that something to ignite that blogging fire again.

and so, today's topic is VENT. i have loads.

recent one would be breakouts. on my poor face. *$#)&%# i can't even use makeup to hide them! and it can only mean one thing: monthly blood donation is near. with work and weekend outings, how very troublesome! not to mention the horrible mood swings. i'm lucky SSD understands now, but sooner or later i bet he's gonna blow up! rofl.

most obvious rant would be work. which has been on my nerves ever since i was moved to sales. totally have no motivation to work nowadays. what irks me most is the fact that i have to wait till february for the bonus, or even march/april, if i want to gain the experience from the IFAI exhibition. =(

after that, the next problem would be finding a job that matches my current pay. or even comes near. money already no enough!! boooo. furthermore, i'm more of a jack of all trades, master of none at the moment. i wonder what kind of job can i find?

but to solve the above problem, i can study, go for courses, or try for UniSim. then again, what subject should i take? -_-

sighhh. why must life be full of choices?!

how i wish reality was like that:

A fishing boat was docked in a tiny coastal village south of the border. An American tourist complimented the local fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them. "Not very long", answered the fisherman. "Then why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?" asked the American. The man said that his small catch was enough for his family. The American asked, "What do you do with the rest of your time?" The fisherman replied, "I sleep late, play with my children, catch a few fish, and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings I go into the village to see my friends, have a few drinks, play the guitar and sing a few songs. I have fun…"

The American interrupted, "Hey, I have an MBA from Duke and I can help you. Start by fishing longer every day and selling the extra fish you catch then you can buy a bigger boat. The larger boat will bring in more money and you can buy a second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet. Instead of selling to a middleman, you can sell directly to the processing plants. You can then leave this little village and move to Mexico City, LA or New York City! There you can direct your enterprise."

"How long would that take?" asked the fisherman. "20-25 years", replied the American. "And after that?" asked the fisherman. "That's when it gets really interesting", answered the American, smiling. "When your business gets really big, you can start selling stocks and make millions!" "Millions? Really? And after that?" asked the fisherman.

"After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny coastal village, sleep late, play with your grandchildren, catch a few fish, take a siesta with your wife and spend your evenings drinking and playing the guitar with your friends!"
