woes of job-hunting

for the past month (or past several months), there has been only one thing on my mind, my job hunt. it's been especially miserable last month being stuck at home. i've been to many interviews; rejected some, and got rejected by some (no news means rejected right?). it's utterly disapponting and demoralizing. sometimes i get so stressed i'll curl up and cry at night. (embarrassing but yes i cry when i'm stressed.)

and i'll like to take this opportunity to brag how i completed my degree in just 8 months. *sarcasm* seriously do you really think i'll spend $18k on a degree for an industry where qualifications are not very important? no dumbass, i paid for the internship. so thank you MDIS, for graduating me without one.

this has been pissing me off for a very long time already. the modules i have taken are mostly useless beyond words (can't blame prospective employers for thinking that way cos i myself think so too) and without the internship (which i have fucking paid for), all that i'm left with is a useless piece of shit paper that won't get me anywhere. sigh. i don't regret quitting RT or taking time off to study, but i do really really regret wasting my time and money on MDIS/SCU. (only thing good is getting to know the gals.)

sigh. words can't express how desperate i am for good news. any type of good news. and yet there are inconsiderate people making insensitive remarks. like SSD. sheesh. luckily i have zhu and wan ting to encourage me back. argh.

anyway, if you really did read that chunk of rant up there, thank you. i feel slightly better now.

... ...

to make the hole in my pocket bigger, i decomm-ed my tank the other day and had it set up again last night. bought some new stuff, including a very expensive (and small) bottle of water stabilizer.

very dark and horrible instagram pic here. i still need to replace that light. sooooo, here's $60 gone without even a single fish or shrimp in the tank. p/s. bought too much taiwan moss; i now have 3/4 tub left. anyone wants them for free? =\

my tired saturday

my paktor day! =D

headed back to school in the morning to pickup my transcript. i thought there was the cert as well, but i guess i gotta wait till october for it. tsk.

then made our way (SSD came to meet me in school ^^) to city hall for SE! feels like it's been such a long time since we dined there. missed it! and i specially brought wall-e out to shoot because om nom really can't capture the beauty of my favorite grilled salmon belly sushi. LMAO.

not much photos; we took repeat plates most of the time. and the salmon sashimi i forgot to shoot. lols. oh my grilled salmon belly. y u stay so far?! =(

walked to plaza sing for our movie - the highly-raved hunger games! SSD says she looks prettier in the poster. lol. i like her though. cos she uses the bow - my favorite weapon in mmorpgs. XD

it was indeed as nice to watch as they say. but i didn't like the concept of it. although it's somewhat similar to the gladiator shows in ancient rome, at least in the latter, you can survive if you're strong enough. the hunger games is so much sicker because the elements can actually be added and controlled. like fireballs, trees, and even the hounds in the end. why would anyone enjoy watching people kill one another? -_-

anyway. walked back to city hall after the show. (bought 2 pairs of shoes on the way. boo.) and had dinner at makansutra. dabao-ed hokkien mee, char kuay teow, and hei jian to the 'riverside' to eat.

honestly, hei jian was not too bad. char kuay teow was so-so. hokkien mee tasted HORRIBLE. i probably won't waste my money (and appetite) on this stall anymore.

blur night mbs shots. *need more practice for wobbly hands*

did so much walking that day; my leg muscles hurt. and i fell asleep with my mask on. tsk.

think success, think mdis? no thanks.

[posted on 08/10/12]

lol drafted this wayy back last year on 30/11/11, but chose to post this only now because i totally had (and still have) NO confidence in the school's professionalism. i think they will 以小人之心度君子之腹 and 假公濟私 and 公報私仇 and don't let me graduate.

so why post now, since i have graduated already? because potential students have the right to know what they're getting into. (disclaimer: everything here is what i have personally experienced. i did NOT make them up.)

incident one

so one day i tweeted about how my school's dress code rules were inconveniencing me. mainly because i go from home and it's lame to dress up just for that 2-3 hours. and the next afternoon, i received a call from the student services or whatever, requesting me to remove MY tweet.

she then proceeded to explain to me the rationale behind implementing this rule. apparently, it's so that students won't dress sloppily when going out in the workforce (or something like that). in that case, shouldn't it apply to diploma students only?
  1. night degree students mostly have working experience and know how to dress for work.
  2. dressing in shorts to school doesn't mean we will dress like this to work. unless you tell me you dress formally everywhere (to sleep, to market, to the beach etc) JUST SO you won't dress sloppily for work.
  3. it's a private school.
  4. i understand that students shouldn't dress too sexily. but shorts aren't sexy, hotpants are. spaghetti tops aren't sexy, bikini tops are. slippers aren't sexy, covered boots are. learn the freaking difference between sexy and convenience! -_-
look at this. "tertiary students should have the autonomy to wear what they want. she said: 'the move brings the students back to secondary school days, instead of letting them assume more personal responsibility. it's making the assumption that students can't make a decision on how they dress." NOT said by me.

a simple search brought more of this up: this, this, and this (probably got lots more). and quoting her, "dress code and academics are not related". so true. if students are happy and produce excellent results, who cares what we wear to school? *rofl at self-contradict* there's a reason why NTU/NUS/SMU are more prestigious, and it ain't about the dressing. (even SIM, kaplan, and psb sounds better.)

anyway, i am somewhat upset by this rule, but not THAT upset to blog about it. i can still live with it. but what i'm pissed about is, they had the freaking cheek to call. i think the way they handle criticisms is clearly laugh-able. asking me to delete my comment is just....CHILDISH.

if she had said something like, "we know you're upset but this is the school's policy and the purpose is to discourage sloppiness blah blah blah, hope you understand", i wouldn't have been so pissed.

i know this won't go down well with the school (if they can find my twitter, they probably can find my blog as well). i would have questioned her there and then myself but i was in the middle of my online quiz and have no time to waste. unlike the school, i prefer to spend my time and energy on academics. -_-

this is my way of asking, "is it really necessary, for the rule and more importantly, for asking me to delete the comment?"

p/s. rules are rules, and i will might abide by them. i guess it's somehow my fault for not checking properly (rule was implemented in 2008) cos if i had known earlier, i certainly WON'T choose this school. but it does not mean i'm happy with them and that i cannot express my personal comments about them. period.

p/p/s. if the school asked me to delete my comment, how come they never sue the new paper journalists who wrote the above articles, or the people who made those statements, or request asiaone to remove it from the website? they have more influence than me lor.

p/p/p/s. i deleted the tweet absentmindedly cos i was concentrating on my quiz. i regretted it afterwards cos it made it appear as though i was in the wrong. and hence, this post.

i assume that it is the school's policy to call and ask people to remove their negative comments. but if she's doing it on her own accord (aka geh kiang), then please note my insults are directed to that busybody alone.

incident two

when i first signed the contract with them, i was to study 2 semesters (8 modules) plus 4 internship modules. nearing the end of semester one, i was informed that the school has reconsidered and i don't have to do the 4 internship modules. although by then i had already found out that the school actually anyhow places interns and they seriously have sucky pay (less than 1k?), but still, changing your bloody mind like this is not a professional way to do things cann?!

and the best part? 8 modules and 12 modules cost the same. FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU!! cheat my money lah!! -.-

incident three

there was never a proper hardcopy submission procedure, that even their lecturers are confused.

for semester one, as long as we submitted it online before the due date, we could always submit the hardcopy to the lecturer during the next lesson, even though it's after the due date.

for this semester, we had to submit it to the student service center (SSC) instead. one lecturer said submit to him at the next lesson (after due date), one said submit to SSC as soon as possible after submitting it online (can be after due date), one kicked up a fuss because i submitted it to SSC after the due date (due on fri, i submitted it the next mon).

this is really, really lame. how many years has the school been around? you can't even make up your mind how students should submit their reports? *shakes head*

... ...

after all this, i don't regret my decision to study, but i DO, DEFINITELY regret choosing this school now. fml that only they had the course i wanted.

end of sem 1.

books have knowledge,
knowledge is power,
power corrupts,
corruption is a crime,
& crime doesn't pay.
so if you keep reading, you'll go broke! :P

finally done with my exams for this semester. sales was horrible; hope i don't fail. *touchwood* F&B and theming were better. at least i think i can pass. =x so now i have 2.5 weeks before my next (and last) semester begins. in which i'll be alone. cos classmates i'm closer with have either graduated or are in another class. *sad face*

anyway, we spent our last day of this semester, partying! ^^ well...not exactly partying. but it kinda felt like that to me after being cooped up studying at home for the past...2.5 weeks? torture can?! finally free now!! 8)

bus-ed down to ikea for lunch after our paper. i didn't realize it was so near! too paiseh to take wall-e out so i used froggie instead. :| salmon is nice!

then headed to cineleisure for movie! reminds me of my poly days where we'll either skips lessons and go shopping or simply 'hang out' after classes. i likes!

hilarious! it's also kinda the first time i heard him speak so much in a movie. i never watched the first part and this is the sequel, but it wasn't hard to guess what happened.

[spoiler] so mr bean johnny is a secret agent who blotched up his security assignment and got suspended. he spent 5 years in tibet, learning from his eye-rolling master. mr bean + kungfu = funny! but then the agency recalled him for another mission to protect china's premier and take down the secret conspiracy - vortex. he and his sidekick tucker is so funny! mr bean + chinese = LOL. oh ya, do stay back after the credits; it shows how johnny cooked dinner for kate and himself. ;)

go watch it online if you haven't. don't think i've ever laughed this loud and madly in the cinema before. i realize it's pretty easy for me to go crazy with these gals as well. =)

after the show, they continued shopping at h&m while i headed off to summer sweet for mani/pedi session. a bit too early cos i think my mani will be off by next week. did their hydrating feet and arm treatment as well. shiokness!

likey my wine red nails! they're matt, if you can't see. i hope to find OPI and china glaze matt and crack nail polish in taiwan and i hope they'll be cheap cheap cheap! chose a pretty turquoise for pedi but too bad cindy is on leave wednesdays, so no nail art. *sad face*

it lasted more than 2 hours and SSD had to wait for me again. had dinner at noodle star. my 揚州炒飯 is nice~ so is SSD's soup. but prices a bit high (my bad). and there's this waitress who gave us this you-owe-me-money-so-i'm-not-gonna-smile-at-you face. super ruin atmosphere.

things to do before flying off next week: shopping at watsons, pack luggage, get screen protector for wall-e, trim eyebrows at hougang, use my free spa session at body contours, 浪漫 with SSD at marina bay, and shopping with him (while hoping he will use his voucher to buy me stuff). heex.

busy!!

i hate patrick. no, not the starfish.

random fact #1 - why is it that i toss and turn a couple of hours every night trying to find the most comfortable position, when in the morning afternoon, every awkward position imaginable feels so comfortable that i don't wanna get up? :|

... ...

random fact #2 - don't know since when, my perlini silver bracelet turned black and ugly and since i could only get the cleaning done at the store next week or so, i decided to try out this home remedy. if you already know it, good for you. if you don't, do try it. it really works! here's what i did:

step 1: fill soup bowl with hot water.
step 2: dissolve 2 teaspoons of baking soda in it.
step 3: place a sheet of aluminium foil inside.
step 4: put the bracelet on the foil.

and voila~! watch the dirt/grime/whatever start to disappear! give it a little nudge now and then to make sure every dirty part of the bracelet is touching the foil. within 10 seconds, my bracelet is nice and shiny again. :D i think it only works with 925 silver though.

... ...

how much information can you squeeze into a piece of a4 paper? all 10 chapters. :?

ultimate test of miniature handwriting! lmao at my mini diagram!

this is so unfair because my sales paper is an open book exam and since i (and majority of us) don't have the book, i have resigned to using the cheatsheet. which is obviously allowed since they allowed the entire textbook to be brought in already. but i still very 不爽 cos the lecturer (a.k.a patrick) didn't mention that the textbook was needed and only last minute he said it's an open book exam.

WHERE TO FIND BOOK YOU TELL ME?!

ok i recently found out kino is selling the book at $188! sighx. and so i am super demoralized. can only aim for a pass. *sad face* and guess what? my events lecturer sent me an email the other night.

8O i seriously hope that he's just trying to scare me into pushing them by saying my grades are affected. why on earth should i be penalized when other people forget to submit assignments? FYI peer review is an individual assignment.

okay, perhaps i should have made the effort to remind them to submit. but would you remind someone who informed you about the deadline in the first place?

tell me, how am i supposed to feel? *face palm*

... ...

alrights. here's somemore random, useless stuff! gonna share what dramas i've watched! lol.

1. 潛行狙擊 (lives of omission)

surprisingly, it doesn't have a happy ending - jodie died and laughing was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing michael. (assuming you have watched, or started to watch, and know who they are.)

2. 醉後決定愛上你 (love you)

similar to FTLY, it's about two people getting together after getting drunk, people around trying to stop them blah blah blah. it was interesting at first, but then it got so draggy that i kept fast-forwarding.

3. 陽光天使 (sunny girl)

another draggy, fast-forward series. slightly more interesting than 醉後決定愛上你 due to its rather 'new' storyline. main attraction would probably be 吳尊. but his acting sucks. lol.

4. 惡魔在身邊 (devil beside you)

re-watched this (fast-forwarding through boring scenes) cos i like 楊丞琳. and how tough bad guys turn soft and sweet in front of their girl. and 賀軍翔 is super 帥 here! rofl.

the next series i'm gonna watch after my exams...

lols. battle starts tomorrow! gambatte!!

foodie weekend

i'm left with 1 and 1/3 reports to complete. hopefully i can start on my final one by monday, due in 2 weeks' time. argh. and hopefully my assignment twos can help pull up the just-pass grades i got for the assignment ones. all 3 lecturers said the same thing - not enough references! like super demoralizing can?! but at least one of them was encouraging enough to say "first semester usually like that one, cos you all don't know how to do referencing."

that's one thing me and my group of first-sems don't understand - if we're supposed to copy and paste what other people say, is there even a point to doing report? won't everyone's report be similar? :|

ah wells. *face palm*

was at clarke quay for dinner yesterday. SSD made me happy by saying we were gonna have buffet at fisherman's market, before he realized it was $50++ per pax. :? so we had manhattan's instead.

they have like, the BEST mushroom soup ever! lol.

cheesy fries were kinda disappointing cos i prefer skinny fries to these.

my upsized dory fish n chips. so yummy but would have enjoyed it more if i wasn't worrying about how to finish all the food.

SSD's seafood spaghetti. (p/s. the shop n save near my house ran out of alfredo sauce so i have to get tomato. *sad face*)

really have to stop stuffing myself like that. =\

went for a walk near the river, and there were lanterns of the 12 zodiac animals lined and lighted up. mine's rabbit and SSD's rat.

the rat look so weird right?! the face like 壽包. rofl. i wonder who designed it. and the snake got ears one. but their dragon is cute. t-rex! (though dragon and dino same meh?) lols. piggy is cute too!

the.end.

... ...

and then it's POLLING DAY today! who did you vote for? :P

after that, we went to see horrible bosses. i kinda didn't expect it to be m18 again. and it was even worse than bridesmaids. SSD getting nottier and nottier. tsk!

i think we need to go watch cars 2. it's cartoon. very healthy. yep. :?

dinner at ah ma's place. and aunt bought the choc tart i liked! ok so the strawberry's sour, but the crust is thin and when you bite into it you get a whole mouthful of yummy chocolate.

ahhh~ someone convince me chocolate ain't fattening. it's from naomi kitchen by the way. :)

a (pretty) useless post

i have a 'new' schoolbag! :D

lol actually this bag has been with me for quite some time already. but i realized that the design, although not bad-looking, was dumb. which resulted in me having to DIY tie those 2 ribbons there. stingy me didn't want to throw it out cos it isn't spoiled, so i'm hoping the heavy book i carry everyday can help spoil the bag. like what it did to my pretty ribbon stud bag. =(

lol very 無聊 right? show you something even more 無聊.

.

.

.

ta da~

rofl. we were talking about the food stall near my house that was having a lucky draw to win iphones/ipads. *smack SSD*

... ...

one thing i'm starting to dislike about school (apart from weird lecturers) - sucky administration! i thought my internship issue was already settled in june. now it appears the school has confused itself, and me with it. i have 4 official documents, 2 saying that i need to do, and 2 saying i don't.

so need to do or not? -_-'''

pasta, anyone?

let's talk about pasta today. ever since i starting schooling again, i've taken to budget-eating to save my resources. which means, pasta and pasta sauce!

tried this one because it was on sale. pretty mushroomy, but i won't be getting it again. i used to finish a bottle of pasta sauce in 3 days, but i took almost 2 weeks to finish this one. seriously, it kinda turns me off pasta. =\

i'll stick to my usual alfredo by leggo's anytime.

... ...

have been chasing lives of omission (潛行狙擊) too. it started airing in HK early this month, so i have to wait for each episode to be uploaded again.

michael tse reprises his role as laughing gor, an undercover cop. also starring bosco wong, fala chen and kate tsui. can't wait to watch all 30 episodes! :|

... ...

popped over SSD's place last weekend and satisfied my 宮保魚片飯 craving! (oh did i mention i satisfied my macdonald craving on friday?) but it wasn't from the stall i preferred, so...i want to eat again! lol.

then satisfied his crab craving for dinner...

...with baby kailan and ABC soup!

i wish i could eat and eat without getting fat. can't wait for taiwan trip now! 臭豆腐, come to mama~~

... ...

a couple of meaningful pictures.

one report 95% down, 3 more to go! 加油!

hauls from JB~!

and so, SSD came back from JB with stuff he bought for me.

uber cute rabbit case! have been wanting one for ages, but i'm too stingy to spend $10 when i have my louis vuitton one already. SSD got it for less than that. :D

comes with a fluffy pink bunny tail at the back to stick on too (not shown)! it's supposed to let the whole phone stand and for coiling any cables or whatever. and when the front's dirty, you pluck it off and clean the screen with it. but i kept it away cos i don't want it to become botak. lols.

shall keep the rilakkuma one to use for taiwan, and it's so gonna match the button! *excited* i sure hope the quality's better than the previous rilakkuma one i had though. hope the ears don't break off! :P

tempted to get the rilakkuma screen protector to complete the set. should it?

... ...

was browsing lolsnaps some time ago and came across this one which i'm guilty of sometimes.

anyone else guilty too?

prius online

lol one more gaming entry. *must go around playing all the games to make full use of shit*

prius online is another 3D pvp game that's like, super similar to aikaSEA. (i heard that aikaSEA copied prius. you'll be able to see the similarities.) now, i've begun to hate games with gender-lock (meaning certain classes can only be played by certain gender avatars) but thankfully, prius' archer is female. :)

here's mine at level 19.

i admit she's ugly. but that's beside the point. see that flower on my bow? at first i thought it looked pretty. now i don't really fancy carrying a 寿桃 everywhere i go. but that's....also not really the point.

the point is, i have an anima. familiar much? lols. but the difference is, there's this gauge that increases as you go along, and once it fills up, you can awake her! like this:

much prettier! in this state, she will be able to use skills that she hasn't learnt.

animas also have personalities that you can encourage. i encouraged mine to be active and independent. which means, when i'm in battle, she uses her skills WITHOUT me asking her to. it's really helpful cos i'm training her to be a healer, so i almost never have to worry about my health!

oh ya, you can go into anima-mode, though i haven't figured out what for. at level 30 (or 35), we can get gigas. i think they're like, tanks that we can transform into? they apparently have much more health and perhaps more skills that we can use to fight boss mobs.

gameplay is basically questing. but it's better than aikaSEA because the quests are like, never-ending. (i'm stuck at level 15 on aikaSEA cos i've completed all the quests for my level and i don't want to grind.) on prius, i'm almost level 21 now and whenever i arrive at a new town, i see quests for level 10-15 that i haven't done. so yeah, it keeps me wanting to continue playing.

there's also a private 'home' where you have a bed and storage and other stuff. you get a quest to add a stove, where your anima can cook. (she can learn skills like cooking and harvesting too!) i haven't figured a lot of that out yet. it's definitely more interesting than aikaSEA. and rappelz perhaps? graphics are definitely NOT cuter than mapleSEA though. =\

pretty white tiger. quest boss mob. they have cute mobs like hopping onions and floating penguins. :P

off to tame my first mount. i think they're called peros. it's gonna be a pig. bright pink. :D

EDIT:

i've got my mount! it's a fox-thingy. not a pig. my bad!

and you have to feed it the food that your anima cooks, or it won't have energy to run. like this:

cute right?! but sadly, i've just realized my huntress skill animations aren't as spectacular as the other classes. boo!

... ...

finally done with all the assignment ones. taking a short 'study' break before i work on the 4 assignment twos. =\
